| Whelp! I did it! I published a book. Its a real thing, with pages and stuff. I cried when I opened up my proof the other day. My mom's copy came in and she teared up a little too. It's so crazy! I've dreamed of publishing my own book for like, ever, and I just did it. Show's what a little elbow grease, motivation, and getting up off your ass can do, lol. I've even got book 2 started. (Shhh... [link] ) This is so awesome. I really don't know why I haven't done this sooner. I love writing. Like, for srsly guys. I'm know it's big dreaming, but I'd love to do this full time. That's the dreeeeeaaaaam. If you're curious (and because I'm not ashamed for a teeny bit of self promotion), you can download my book for kindle on amazon for $2.99. Even if you don't have a kindle, you can read it on the amazon cloud reader. OR, if you'd rather have a physical book, print is available. (Yay!) *cough* [link] *cough* Also-also, the WONDERFUL and AMAZING lady who did my book cover is actually here on deviantart, too. |
80,000 words and two months later....
Whelp! I did it! I published a book. Its a real thing, with pages and stuff. I cried when I opened up my proof the other day. It was so shiny! And the insides looked like a -real- book. (Well, of course it was -real-, but I mean, traditionally published.)
My mom's copy came in and she teared up a little too. She and my sister came down to visit me for a week, and she ooh'd and aww'd over it, very mommy like. It made me feel all warm and fluffy inside.
The print version came out SO nice. It smells LIKE VICTORY. Don't judge me for sniffing my own book. *cough*
Anyhoozle, it's still kind of surreal. I don't think it's sunk in. But holy crap, have I learned a lot. Indie publishing is like... legit now. It got such a bad wrap for so long, but Amazon has really shook things up. Indie authors are on all kinds of best-sellers lists, and a lot of them are making serious bank. Not that I'm in it for the money (though that's nice), I just think it's cool you can do it all yourself. Some indie's are even turning down offers from big name publishers! Rightfully so, I guess... Amazon only takes a 30% cut... why divy up the rest of that 70% for someone who's doing something you can do yourself, right?
Aaaah, the wonderful world of marketing and percentages. Methinks I should take some business classes or something. This shit is cray-cray. Honestly, I'm just glad to hold my own book.
I MADE DIS.
